Envy is to wish that someone loses a blessing he is enjoying, whether it is a blessing related to the religion or to the worldly life. Allah Almighty says: {Or do they envy people for what Allah has given them out of His bounty?} [Surat an-Nisā’: 54] The Hadīth of Anas that was cited in the previous chapter belongs in this chapter as well.
Hasad adalah mengharapkan hilangnya suatu nikmat dari pemiliknya, baik itu nikmat agama ataupun dunia. Allah -Ta'ālā- berfirman, "Ataukah mereka hasad kepada manusia (Muhammad) karena karunia yang telah diberikan Allah kepadanya?" (QS. An-Nisā`: 54) Hal ini juga telah ditunjukkan oleh hadis Anas yang telah disebutkan dalam bab sebelumnya.
1569- Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (may Allah’s peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Beware of envy; indeed, envy consumes good deeds like fire consumes firewood.” Or he said: “like fire consumes grass.” [Narrated by Abu Dāwūd] [9]
1569- Abu Hurairah -raḍiyallāhu 'anhu- meriwayatkan bahwa Nabi -ṣallallāhu 'alaihi wa sallam- bersabda, "Jauhilah oleh kalian sifat hasad, karena hasad itu memakan kebaikan sebagaimana api memakan kayu bakar -atau beliau mengatakan, rumput." (HR. Abu Daud) [9]
1) Envy is dispraised and warned of, being one of the grave major sins.
1) Celaan terhadap sifat hasad serta peringatan darinya karena hasad termasuk dosa besar.
2) Envy destroys good deeds. A believer should be careful to rid himself of it by being content with the provision that Allah has decreed for him.
2) Hasad dapat menghilangkan pahala; oleh karena itu, seorang mukmin harus bersungguh-sungguh menyelamatkan diri dari sifat hasad tersebut dengan cara merasa rida terhadap rezeki yang Allah -Ta'ālā- bagikan padanya.
